Benue: PDP dismisses report linking Akume to governorship ticket

‎The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Benue State on Sunday dismissed a media report alleging that the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, is plotting to impose the party’s governorship candidate, Chief Michael Aondoakaa (SAN), ahead of the 2027 election.

‎The opposition party described the publication as false, mischievous, and politically motivated, insisting that Aondoakaa emerged strictly through the PDP’s internal democratic processes without external interference.

‎In a statement issued on Sunday by the Benue PDP State Publicity Secretary, Bright Yima Antyo, the party argued that the report was deliberately engineered to undermine the credibility of the party and tarnish the image of respected political figures.

‎Antyo stressed that it was highly misleading to suggest Akume played any role in producing the PDP’s candidate, maintaining that the party remains fiercely committed to internal democracy and due process.

‎

‎“The PDP is a democratic institution with established procedures for producing its candidates. Chief Michael Aondoakaa emerged through those processes and not through the sponsorship or influence of Senator George Akume or any other external political actor,” the statement read.

‎The party also brushed aside allegations that Akume and other top political figures were backing PDP candidates for a covert political agenda, noting that no shred of evidence had been presented to support the claims.

‎Furthermore, the PDP noted that the allegations in the report mirrored existing propaganda being circulated in the state’s political space, suggesting they are part of a coordinated campaign to discredit both the party and its flagbearer.

‎Reiterating its focus, the PDP maintained that its primary objective remains providing credible leadership and practical solutions to the developmental challenges facing Benue State.
