Benue govt declares one-week Easter holiday for workers

‎The Benue State Government has approved a one-week public holiday for its civil servants to mark the Easter celebration.

‎The decision, announced by state authorities, is aimed at giving workers the opportunity to fully observe the Christian festival, regarded as a significant period for believers.

‎Officials explained that the break would allow employees to relax, travel, and spend quality time with their families.

‎Easter, which commemorates the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, is widely celebrated across the country.

‎The government noted that the timing of the holiday also provides workers with a chance for rest and spiritual reflection.

‎Residents were encouraged to use the period to pray for peace, unity, and progress in the state.

‎Benue has in recent times experienced security concerns, particularly from recurring clashes between farmers and herders.

‎Authorities therefore called on citizens to maintain peace and obey all laws throughout the holiday.

‎Reactions from workers have been largely positive, with many saying the extended break will help them rejuvenate and reconnect with loved ones.

‎Others pointed out that the holiday could boost local businesses, as increased travel and spending are expected during the festive period.

‎Meanwhile, essential service providers, including personnel in healthcare and security sectors, will continue to work to ensure uninterrupted services.

‎The government also urged travellers to adhere strictly to road safety measures.

‎Easter remains one of the most important celebrations in Christianity, and the holiday underscores its importance to many residents of Benue State.
