Presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the 2027 election, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, on Thursday met with his main rival in the party’s presidential primary, former Rivers State governor, Rotimi Amaechi.
Atiku had emerged winner of the recently concluded ADC presidential primary, defeating Amaechi and businessman Mohammed Hayatu-Deen to secure the party’s ticket.
Amaechi, however, had before the official announcement rejected the outcome of the exercise, alleging that the process was marred by irregularities.
In his acceptance speech after the primary, Atiku called on Amaechi and other aggrieved members of the party to close ranks and work together ahead of the 2027 general election.
Details of Thursday’s meeting remained unclear as of press time, as neither Atiku nor Amaechi had briefed journalists on the outcome of their discussions.
However, party sources said the meeting may be part of ongoing efforts by Atiku to reconcile aggrieved stakeholders and secure Amaechi’s backing ahead of the presidential poll.
