ASUP, NASUP threaten industrial action in Abia over unpaid salaries

Members of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic (ASUP) and Non-Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic (NASUP) at Abia State College of Health Sciences and Management Technology, Aba, have threatened to go on strike due to their three-month unpaid salaries.

They said they could no longer guarantee the reaction of their members to their unpaid three-month salaries.

This was contained in a protest letter addressed to the Rector of the Abia State College of Health Sciences and Management Technology, Aba.

In the letter signed by Kanu Michael and Egwuibe Kingsley, on behalf of ASUP and NASU, respectively, they complained that despite completing staff verification, they are being owed three months’ salaries.

“Unfortunately, to date, having completed the staff verification exercise, our members have yet to receive their salaries or an explanation as to management’s inability to pay.

“We wish to state that our college is one of the institutions noted for regular and prompt payment of salaries before now. We wish to state that the present state of affairs cannot guarantee industrial harmony, thus we may not control our members’ reactions as they have almost reached a point of frustration,” the statement affirmed.
