APC Convention:Buhari Never Discussed Zoning-Adamu

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Senator Abdulahi Adamu on Sunday debunked speculations that the President Muhammadu Buhari has a preference for the zoning the partyโ€™s 2023 presidential ticket to the South.

Some reports claimed that President Muhammadu Buhari had directed the selection of a standard-bearer of Southern origin.

It would be recalled that the Nigeria leader and party leaders met with the aspirants at the State House in Abuja, on Saturday night.

Muhammad Nataโ€™ala Keffi, spokesman to National Chairman, Abdullahi Adamu said the gathering didnโ€™t discuss zoning.

In a statement on Sunday, Keffi noted that such claims were false, mischievous and misleading.

He said the President only advised the aspirants to build โ€œa consensus that would help the party reduce the number of aspirants and bring up a formidable candidateโ€.

โ€œFrom the quotations from Mr Presidentโ€™s speech, there is nowhere where zoning was mentioned.

โ€œWe call on the public to disregard any information about the zoning of the presidential contest to any part country.

โ€œWhat Mr President want is the interest of Nigeria and Nigerians; no more, no less.โ€

The statement added that APC was desirous of a credible and acceptable candidate who can move Nigeria forward with sincerity of purpose.
