Angry contractors lay coffin in front of Ministry of Finance in protest

Aggrieved contractors have laid a coffin at the entrance of the Finance Ministry headquarters in Abuja. The contractors under the aegis of the All Indigenous Contractors Association of Nigeria (AICAN) started a non-stop protest at the ministry on Tuesday over debts being owed by the Federal Government.

They accused the federal government of attempting to push them out of business.

Speaking with reporters, an executive of the association said they brought the coffin to show how they had been burying their members due to incidents relating to the debt.

He said, “Even last week we buried a member, Abdulganiyu. This has been going on for long. And it’s unacceptable. We lost six members recently due to high blood pressure.”

Recall that in September, members of the All Indigenous Contractors Association of Nigeria (AICAN) had appealed to President Bola Tinubu for the payment of completed 2,024 capital projects worth over ₦4 trillion.

According to them, thousands of their members across the country are being pushed into debt, sickness, and financial ruin as a result of the non–payment of their outstanding balance.
