Anambra govt approves N2m as support for woman who delivered quintuplets

Anambra State government has approved the N2 million for an ex-corps member, Chidinma Amaechi who recently delivered a set of quintuplets in Awka, the Anambra State capital.

The former corps member’s husband, had last month upon her delivery, pleaded for help from public-spirited individuals and from the state government.

The babies were delivered after a caesarian session and later transferred to the intensive care unit of the hospital.

An elder sister to the nursing mother, Mrs Ebele Oranekwu who had addressed journalists at the hospital after the babies were born, said their incubator bills alone were N250,000 for each day, and that the children were expected to be in the incubator for 30 days.

She said her sister’s total hospital bill amounted to about N7.5 million, aside from other huge bills already accumulated, in the past two months of managing the delicate pregnancy at the hospital.

The Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Ify Obinabo had in a statement, disclosed the state government’s plan to support the family in offsetting part of their hospital bill.

Obinabo said: “Financial support is currently being processed as a token for the wellbeing of the quintuplets, which consist of three males and two females.

“The support will be sent to the family immediately we are done processing it,” she said.
