The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ)’s Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) has frozen the assets of four people suspected to be part of an alleged gold-smuggling and money-laundering syndicate.
The FIU has frozen the assets of Fredrick Kunaka, general manager of Fidelity Printers and Refiners, and three others who were suspected to be enablers in the illicit scheme, The Herald newspaper reported on Thursday.
Fidelity Printers and Refiners is the RBZ’s gold-buying entity.
The others who have had their assets frozen are head of security at the Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe Cleopas Chidodo, the RBZ’s Aurex Jewellery head of finance David Chirozvi and Mehlululi Dube, who is associated with a company called Golden Beryl Limited.
