The Zamfara State government said it has approved the conversion of the state College of Agriculture and Animal Sciences, Bakura to a College of Agriculture and Technology while arrangements to renovate it have been concluded.
This was disclosed by the State Commissioner for Agriculture, Yau Haruna Gamji after he defended the ministry’s 2024 fiscal year budget before the House of Assembly standing committee on appropriation.
This was contained in a statement issued by the ministry’s information and public relations officer, Bashir Abashiya.
“The Commissioner said the upgrading of the college was to consolidate on the aspiration of the former late Sardauna of Sokoto, Sir Ahmadu Bello who established the institution to provide middle manpower for agricultural extension services in the region”, the statement added.
“The Commissioner disclosed that the upgrading will also qualify the College to benefit from the Tetfund and other donors interventions by improving infrastructure and capacity building for the staff of the institution”
Ya u Haruna equally also said that the State Government has approved the re-accreditation of existing courses and accreditation of technical disciplines the institution is planning to introduce as a prerequisite for the college transition from Monotechnic to Polytechnic as required by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE)”
