Zamfara Assembly to implement social protection bill, establish disability board

The Zamfara State Government has been called upon to as a matter of urgency establish a state disability board which will, among other things, safeguard persons with disability in the state from all forms of discrimination and promote their access to opportunities in all aspects of life.

This follows allegations by persons living with disability in the state of being marginalised.

The state government said the complaints had become worrisome, such that the State House of Assembly has to stand on its right to fight the inequality in the state.

The decision was contained in a press statement issued to newsmen in Gusau by the Speaker of the Assembly, Nasiru Mu’azu Magarya while officiating a plenary, deliberating on the state Social Protection and disability Bills.

The statement was laid before the House by the committee on Women, Children and Social Welfare and the Parliamentary Forum for further legislative actions.

Presenting the reports before the House, the Chairmen, Committee on Women, Children and Social Welfare and Parliamentary Forum, assigned to scrutinize the bills, said they engaged stakeholders for input, made necessary adjustments.
