The Oyo State chapter of All Progressives Congress (APC) has alleged that Governor Seyi Makinde is paying lip service to security matters in the state.
The party made this disclosure on Thursday.
Recall that Makinde won the 2019 gubernatorial election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
APC, the major opposition political party in the state has, however, alleged that the governor is not serious about handling security issues in the state.
The party alleged that available reports indicated that cases of organized crime and security breaches have been on the increase in some parts of the state in recent times.
The party in a statement made available through its Publicity Secretary, Olawale Sadare, claimed that Makinde has not been able to show that he is capable of solving the myriad of problems in the state.
“Apart from the fact that Governor Makinde has failed to demonstrate competence and commitment in power, he has not been able to show the world that he is capable of solving the myriad of problems facing the state, particularly as this concerns insecurity, environmental degradation, youth unemployment, falling standard of economy, infrastructural deficit among others.
“The situation is made worse by Makinde’s penchant for globetrotting and dereliction of duty since he prefers holidaying abroad and hibernating in Port Harcourt, Rivers State more often than not as it pleases him,” the statement noted.
It also made reference to the rise in criminal activities along major highways.
“For some weeks now, there have been daily reports of armed robbery and kidnapping on Ibadan-Ijebu-Ode and Ibadan-Lagos Expressway while governors of Ogun and Lagos states have responded well, their counterpart in Oyo State was nowhere to be found as we have it on good authority that Gov. Makinde is in the United States for no reason other than tourism and junketing,” the statement affirmed.
