Yorubas being provoked to war, militias taken over Southwest – Afenifere’s Adebanjo

The leader of the Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, Ayo Adebanjo, has condemned the killings at St Francis Catholic Church in Owo, Ondo State.

Adebanjo warned that Yorubas are being provoked into a war with attacks like that on the Catholic church in Owo.

A statement by Afenifere’s spokesman, Jare Ajayi, quoted Adebanjo as lamenting that militias have taken over the Southwest.

Some gunmen attacked St. Francis Catholic Church in Owo during church service on Sunday.

No fewer than 50 corpses were moved out of the church, with many casualties taken to the Federal Medical Center, Owo.

However, Adebanjo called on the Federal Government to act decisively on this issue of insecurity if it is not behind it.

“With what happened in Owo, the Yorubas are being provoked into war because they know that the land had been infiltrated and surrounded by armed militias,” Adebanjo said.

He also added that any attempt to unleash mayhem in Yorubaland would be resisted, stressing that “Oodualand was never conquered then, it will not be conquered now.”

Adebanjo warned those who may be nursing such a thought to perish it immediately and toe the line of peace and harmonious co-habitation.
