Woman Faces 12-month Jail Term for Tearing Husband’s Passport at Lagos Airport after Returning from Abroad

A woman who was captured in a viral video tearing her husband’s passport at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos might be sentenced to a 12-month jail term.

Recall a now-viral video showed a female traveller, Mrs. Favour Igiebor, tearing her husband’s Nigerian Standard Passport shortly after arriving at the Lagos Airport.

In the footage, agitated Igiebor, when questioned about her actions, retorted, “Is it your passport?”

She later then told off her transfixed husband as she held the kids’ hands out of the walkway, “If you want to sleep there, sleep there, this is Nigeria, this is where you will be”.

Officials could then be heard consoling and telling her husband to calm down and not say anything in response to the outburst of the woman.

The widely circulated video of the incident which occurred on Saturday, August 10, 2024, has sparked concern among netizens on social media.

Many condemned the woman’s actions describing it as both a public display of emotional distress and a serious offense, given that a passport is a document owned by the Nigerian government.

@__jaidz: I don’t know why some women think so shallow, she just acted without even weighing the consequences. I wont be surprised if she later was sorry for this and re think she did a very wrong thing. Women need to stop doing things based on emotions and think logically sometimes all this weaker vessel sh!t just ignorance and pathway for stupidness.
