Why we beat Senegal 3-0 – England coach, Gareth Southgate

England manager, Gareth Southgate has explained why his team defeated Senegal 3-0 during both sides’ World Cup round of 16 tie on Sunday night.

Southgate watched as three goals from Jordan Henderson, Harry Kane and Bukayo Saka, gave England the victory over Senegal at Al Bayt Stadium.

The result means England will now face France in the last-8 on Saturday.

Speaking after the game, Southgate highlighted the Three Lions’ ability to take their chances as his most pleasing takeaway from the performance, adding that his team worked off the ball and without the ball.

“I think the ruthlessness of our execution (was my favourite part),” Southgate told ITV.

“But the way the team worked off the ball, and without the ball. I think in the end we were a bit sticky with the ball in the first 25-30 minutes.

“Senegal had a lot of energy, they pressed well, and their shape was good. And really our best opportunities came from winning the ball from them.”
