A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, who was also the governorship aspirant of the party in Abia State, Sampson Orji, has declared his support for Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of Labour Party, LP.
Orji revealed this in a statement he made available on Thursday.
He said that his preference for Obi against PDP’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, was premised on Obi’s competence.
He further stated that he would mobilize support for Obi’s candidature because of his antecedent and not because he is his a fellow Igbo man.
“I’m a PDP man till tomorrow, but I will support Obi, not because he is Igbo but because of what he represents. Obi is a movement. My family and friends will vote for him.
“Atiku is my friend, but Obi is a better candidate.
“So, it is blindness to tell me to support Atiku, when we have Obi who has shown competence and capacity to take Nigeria out of the woods”, he said.
Recall that PDP has been embroiled in political crisis, with doubt swelling over the support for its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar in the forthcoming 2023 presidential election.
Similarly, the Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, yesterday disclosed that he would have worked for the success of the presidential candidature of Obi, if he were not a member of PDP, thus heightening doubts over the capability of the party to challenge other candidates in the 2023 election.
