Why half of Nigerian current leaders are not in jail – SDP presidential candidate, Abedayo

Presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) for the 2023 election, Adewole Adebayo, says corrupt Nigerian leaders have not been jailed because of inefficient police system.

Adebayo made the assertion on Sunday during the second edition of presidential town-hall meeting organized by ARISE TV in collaboration with Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD).

He alleged that the government deliberately ignored establishing an efficient police system due to fear of being jailed.

Adebayo, who declared that one of the hardest things to do in the country, was to eliminate crime from the government, is of the opinion that for crime to reduce in Nigeria, it must start from the leaders.

He said if elected president in the forthcoming election, he would change the system in a bid to proffer solutions to the ravaging criminal activities in the country.

He said, “And the two steps to take to eliminate crime is to eliminate crime within the government. That is the hardest thing to do in Nigeria.

“One of the reasons we don’t have an efficient police system is that if we had an efficient police system, half of those who are in government will be in jail.

“So, it’s not in the interest of the government as it’s today, to have an effective police force. But they need the police for protection. So, I will make that difference.”
