We cannot control what our opponents do – Arteta on title race after West Ham win

Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta has said his players can only focus on themselves in the title race.

Arteta was speaking to the media after a 3-1 win over West Ham on Boxing Day.

The Gunners came from a goal down to pick up maximum points in their first game back after the World Cup.

They now sit seven points ahead of second-place Newcastle and eight more than Manchester City who travel to Leeds on Thursday.

Arteta has now called on his squad not to be distracted.

He said: “What I tell the players is we have to focus on us. We cannot control what the opponents are going to do, how good they are going to become or how many points they are going to get or drop.

“So we have to focus on our performance, what we are doing every day and what has brought us here.

“It is not a coincidence, so we need to keep doing what we are doing.”
