US Secret Service Director Resigns After Failed Trump Assassination Attempt

Kimberly Cheatle, the Director of the United States Secret Service, has stepped down amid intense pressure and calls for her resignation.

The move comes after a failed assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump, where a bullet narrowly missed his head but hit his ears.

Cheatle’s resignation follows her appearance before the House Oversight Committee on Monday, where she faced tough questioning and refused to answer several questions.

Republican lawmakers had been pushing for her impeachment and resignation.

The incident that led to her resignation occurred a few weeks ago when a 20-year-old man bypassed Secret Service agents and shot at Trump during a presidential campaign event in Butler, Pennsylvania.

Initially, Cheatle had stated that she would not step down, despite the backlash. However, the pressure became too much, leading to her eventual resignation.

She was appointed by President Joe Biden to lead the Secret Service in 2022.
