Two men remanded over robbery in Kano

A Kano Senior Magistrates’ Court ordered the remand of Sadiq Isma’il, 20, and Fahad Gambo, 26, on Monday, for allegedly robbing a household of valuables valued at N25 million.

The defendants are standing trial on three-count charge of criminal conspiracy, armed robbery and illegal possession of prohibited fire arms.

Senior Magistrate Hajara Hamza, who did not take the pleas of the defendants because her court lacked jurisdiction, ordered their remand in a correctional centre.

Hamza ordered that the case file should be duplicated and a copy sent to the State Director of Public Prosections for legal advice and adjourned the matter until March 4, for further mention.

The police prosecutor, ASP Haziel Lidapuwa, had earlier informed had the court that the defendants committed the offences on December 24, 2023, at Sharada Quarters, Kano.

He alleged that on the date at about 3:30 am, the defendants conspired with Usman Sunusi and Nafiu Umar, now at large, and armed with two English pistols and sharp knife attacked the quarters.

He said the offences contravened sections 97 and 298 of the Penal Code Law of Kano State and Section 3 of the Robbery and Firearms (Special provision) Act 2014 Cap Rll LFN as amended.
