A Kano Line bus carrying 41 travelers who were rescued by troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA after it broke down along the Tsafe-Funtua Road in Zamfara State.
Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued 41 travellers who were abducted after their commercial bus broke down along the Tsafe-Funtua Road in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The incident occurred on Monday when the bus travelling from Senegal to Kano State developed a mechanical fault along the highway.
According to preliminary reports, armed bandits took advantage of the situation and attempted to move the stranded passengers into the surrounding area.
Acting on actionable intelligence, troops said they swiftly mobilised to the scene and engaged the attackers with superior firepower.
The pressure forced the armed men to abandon the victims and flee into nearby farmlands, the army added.
The 41 rescued travellers comprised 24 males, 10 females and seven children.
The military said they were rescued unharmed and are currently receiving the necessary support.
Authorities said the victims would be reunited with their families and transit authorities, while troops continue to maintain an active presence in the area to ensure the safety of travellers and apprehend the fleeing suspects.
Troops of the Joint Task Force North-West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have also foiled two separate abduction attempts and rescued 10 victims in different parts of Zamfara State.
The operations, carried out on Sunday, took place in Maru and Tsafe Local Government Areas of the state.
In Maru, troops of Sector 2 received information that terrorists had abducted villagers at Kade Daba Village in Kanoma District.
The troops said it immediately mobilised to the area and engaged the terrorists, rescuing three victims.
Further exploitation of the area led to the rescue of an additional victim, bringing the total number of victims rescued in the operation to four.
In a separate operation along the Tsafe-Funtua Road, troops conducting a picketing operation heard sporadic gunshots around Kwanoni and immediately moved towards the location.
According to the military, the troops encountered terrorists withdrawing through the surrounding high ground and engaged them, forcing them to flee.
The Theatre Commander commended the troops for their swift response and professionalism, reaffirming the military’s commitment to sustained operations against terrorists in the North-West.
