A 22-year-old tricyclist, Tomiwa Odeyemi, on Thursday, appeared before an Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court for allegedly defiling a 17-year-old girl.
The prosecutor, ASP Emmanuel Abdullahi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Jan 29, 1023 around 6:01 a. m., at Mayfair Area, Ile-Ife.
Abdullahi said that the defendant indecently assaulted and had canal knowledge of a 17-year-old girl.
He added that the offence contravened section 32(2) of the Child Rights Law of Osun, 2015.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge of indecent assault.
The Defence Counsel, Mr Okoh Wonder, applied for the bail of the defendant in most Liberal term, promising that his client would not jump bail and would provide reliable sureties.
Magistrate O.T. Badmus, granted defendant bail in the sum of N1 million with two sureties in like sum.
Badmus said that the sureties must swear to an affidavit of means, reside within the court’s jurisdiction, whose addresses must be verified by the prosecutor.
He added that one of the sureties must be civil servant not below grade level 07 with three-year tax clearance certificate or deposit N50,000 with means of identification.
He adjourned the case until July 7, for hearing.
