Total darkness hits Abuja as TCN gives reasons

The Transmission Company of Nigeria has announced a total blackout across districts of the Federal Capital Territory.

The general manager, public affairs of the TCN, Ndidi Mbah said the blackout is fur to a maintainance exercise planned by the company.

According to Mbah, the exercise will affect power supply across some parts of the FCT.

She said the exercise would begin from 9am to 1 pm on Saturday, December 28, on the 60MVA power transformer and its associated switchgear at the Gwagwalada 330/132/33kV Transmission Substation.

Mbah further stated that another maintenance will be carried out between 9 am and 10 pm on Sunday, December 29, on one of the 60MVA power transformers at the Kukwaba 132/33kV Transmission Substation.

Areas that would be affected by the power interruptions include Wuye, EFCC, Federal Medical Centre, Coca-Cola, Idu Railway Station, Citec, and Life Camp.

She said, “During this period, Abuja DisCo will not be able to supply electricity to customers in Gwagwalada and its environs for four hours only.

“TCN apologises for the inconvenience this may cause, especially during the end-of-year and yuletide season. However, it is important that maintenance is carried out as scheduled for the optimal performance of power equipment,” Mbah stated.
