President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to building a secure, stable and economically prosperous Nigeria, urging citizens to embrace peace and unity ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Tinubu spoke on Sunday at the 66th Independence Anniversary Interdenominational Church Service at the National Ecumenical Centre, Abuja, where he was represented by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
The service, themed “Anchored in Hope: The Path to Divine Stability and Shared Prosperity,” formed part of activities marking Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary.
The President said Nigeria had demonstrated resilience through decades of economic, political and security challenges, adding that ongoing reforms were aimed at strengthening stability and expanding opportunities for citizens.
He urged Nigerians to protect the country’s democratic gains by promoting peaceful participation, dialogue and national cohesion as the 2027 elections approach.
Tinubu also paid tribute to members of the Armed Forces and security agencies, particularly personnel who lost their lives defending the country.
In his sermon, Archbishop Musa Filibus of the Lutheran Church of Christ in Nigeria said sustainable nation-building required justice, accountability and responsible leadership.
He said shared prosperity should translate into families meeting their basic needs, children accessing education and young people having opportunities to use their talents productively.
Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Sen. George Akume, thanked religious leaders, diplomats and Nigerians for supporting national unity, saying the government remained focused on ensuring that economic progress benefited communities and young people.
