President Bola Tinubu has assured residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) that his administration will extend access to clean water to all six area councils as part of its Renewed Hope Agenda.
The President gave the assurance on Tuesday during the inauguration of the newly completed Bwari Water Supply Network in Bwari. He was represented by the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.Presidential Candidate Profiles
Tinubu noted that for many years, residents of Bwari, Ushafa and neighbouring communities depended on untreated boreholes and streams for their water needs.
He described the completion of the project as a fulfilment of his administration’s commitment to improving the quality of life for Nigerians, stressing that the Renewed Hope Agenda is “not merely a slogan but a contract.”
“As we mark our third anniversary in office, we are here today to celebrate the fulfilment of that promise right here in Bwari,” he said.Executive Branch
According to the President, the newly inaugurated 198-kilometre water pipeline network connects Bwari and surrounding communities directly to the treated water source at the Lower Usuma Dam, providing residents with safe and reliable water.
“Water is life. Clean water is dignity. It is a fundamental right, not a luxury,” he said, adding that the project would help reduce waterborne diseases and eliminate the costly reliance on private boreholes.
Tinubu highlighted the administration’s progress in expanding water infrastructure, citing the rehabilitation of the Lower Usuma Dam Phase II, the recent inauguration of the Karu Water Supply Network and the completion of the Bwari project.Presidential Candidate Profiles
He pledged that before the end of his administration, similar water supply projects would be completed in Kuje, Kwali, Gwagwalada and Abaji.
The President also commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for his leadership and commitment to delivering key infrastructure projects.
He praised Wike for improving the FCT’s Internally Generated Revenue and overseeing the execution of major projects in roads, housing and water supply, describing him as a dependable driver of the Renewed Hope Agenda.Executive Branch
Speaking earlier, Wike recalled that Tinubu directed the FCT Administration to extend potable water to satellite towns during the inauguration of the Greater Abuja Water Project in 2025.
He said the directive had already produced results, with the Karu Water Supply Network inaugurated on June 29 and the Bwari Water Supply Network now completed.Presidential Candidate Profiles
“We want Nigerians to know that our focus is not only on roads. We are equally investing in other critical sectors, including water supply,” Wike said.
