Tinubu: Civil servants have power to influence election outcome

A former Chairman of the Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees, NULGE, Osun state chapter, Kenneth Olutayo Tinubu has revealed that in a civil service state like Osun, civil servants can influence the outcome of an election.

Tinubu, who berated the immediate past governor of Osun, Adegboyega Oyetola over his attitude to workers, maintained that his non-challant attitude towards civil servants in the state led to his defeat in the July 16, 2022, gubernatorial election.

Tinubu made this known while featuring in a Workers’ Day special edition on a radio current affairs programme in Osogbo on Monday.

According to him, “The non-challant attitude of the past government caused their downfall.

“They believed that the workers have nothing to offer and the workers showed them that they are ready to support any government that was ready to support them.

“Eighty percent of workers voted against the last government.”

Also, Tinubu said the promises made by the present Osun governor, Ademola Adeleke to the civil servants was the reason he won the election.

“When he wanted to come in, we held a meeting with him and he made promises to us. That was why the people voted for him.

“The workers can influence the result of an election, especially in a civil service state and that is what happened in Osun,” he added.
