Taraba govt moves to checkmate quackery in medical profession

Taraba State government says it has put in place mechanisms to eliminate quackery in the medical profession.

The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Bodiya Buma, who disclosed this weekend, said Governor Agbu Kefas has given the ministry the mandate to put in place a special taskforce that would checkmate quackery in the profession.

According to him, the taskforce will not only be made up of medical professionals, but security agencies.

He said the taskforce will also ensure that the state ceases from becoming a dumping ground for fake drugs.

He said, “there are regulatory bodies but over the years funding has been a major problem.

“They have not been properly funded. The Governor has given us the assurance that the taskforce will be properly funded.”

“The Governor has asked us to look into the existing regulatory bodies with the aim of collaborating with them to achieve our set up goals.”

The Commissioner warned those who have been feeding fat on such unprofessional ventures, to as a matter of urgency, desist from such acts.
