See eh, when it comes to raw talent, Jesse Jagz is exceptional. He’s highly gifted and undeniably contributed a lot to his brother, MI. But in entertainment, not everyone who is talented or gifted automatically reaches the peak of their career.
The truth is, the genre Jesse focuses on –RAP is no longer mainstream in Nigeria. Rap appeals mostly to old Gs like us who grew up in the hip-hop era.

Today’s market has shifted, and not everybody connects with pure rap music.
Yes, Jesse is a solid producer, we know that. But trying to drag a colleague in Davido’s class is immature. No matter how anyone looks at it, Davido has paid his dues in the industry. We all saw where he started from and how he struggled to get to the top, despite coming from an influential family.
In the Nigerian music industry, being rich or well-connected doesn’t guarantee success. If your talent and star power don’t sell you, no amount of promotion will help. (Na only your family members go be your fans.) Many artistes have spent money pushing their music, but without the right connections, timing, and audience appeal, it’s just wasted effort
The video circulating of Jesse insulting Davido and calling him talentless doesn’t sit well with me. It paints him as a pained musician dealing with a lot, and honestly, he seems to need help rather than drama.
As Davido’s elder in the game, Jesse should be nurturing him or seeking collaboration, just like other senior colleagues are doing. These days, young rappers are blending rap with Afrobeats to connect with Gen Z—the real patrons of music today. If you can’t connect with them, you’re simply wasting your time.
Music feeds the soul, and musicians usually beef to sell something. But it’s hard to see what Jesse is trying to sell here, because this approach only makes him look pitiful.
Anyone who listens to Jesse’s music knows he’s not a rookie. But talent alone doesn’t give you everything in this industry. My hope is that he buries the hatchet with Davido and channels his energy into a collaboration that could lift him back to the peak.
