Suspected political thugs burgle Ekiti SDP office, cart away tribunal case documents, valuables 

Some hoodlums suspected to be political thugs have reportedly vandalized the Ekiti State Secretariat of the Social Democratic Party SDP, located along Ilawe road in Ado Ekiti, the state capital.

The burglars, who invaded the office premises on Tuesday night were said to have carted away the properties and important documents being used in the ongoing prosecution of the Ekiti 2022 governorship election at the tribunal.

The SDP candidate in the June 18, 2022 governorship election, Segun Oni, is challenging the outcome of the poll that produced the candidate of the All Progressives congress, APC, Biodun Oyebanji as winner.

The SDP Public Relations Officer, Gani Salau, briefed newsmen about the development on Wednesday in the office.

The PRO, who spoke with journalists in the presence of the State Chairman of the SDP, Dele Ekunola, explained that the incident has been reported to the police.

“The office assistant, Joy, got to know this morning and informed us. We discovered that various items and documents were carted away. At the office of the chairman, secretary and conference room, plasma TV sets, decoders, big extension sets and plastic chairs were taken away.

“The office of the chairman and secretary were massively vandalized, while documents being used for the ongoing Ekiti 2022 governorship election tribunal case were carted away.”

He explained that the hoodlums came inside the premises in the night through the fence, jumped in forcefully and opened the door.

The PRO, who took journalists round the offices to ascertain the incident, stated that “the most important thing is that we have informed the security who assured us of prompt action, the DPO of New Iyin road police station sent his team to conduct round the office for inspection.”

“We are not succumbing to the reactionary forces within the system, we are going ahead with the case, we are unruffled to continue to prosecute the case to a conclusion and reclaim our mandate,” he concluded.
