Nigerian football continues to make its mark on the global stage, with Super Falcons defender Rofiat Imuran securing a move to Aston Villa Women ahead of the 2026/27 season.
The 22-year-old full-back joins the English club from London City Lionesses, adding another chapter to a career that began with Stade de Reims in France.
Her move to Villa also strengthens the growing presence of Nigerian talent in top-level European women’s football.
Imuran, who made her senior Nigeria debut in 2022, has already represented the Super Falcons at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup and the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
Now taking another step forward in England, she says the move is about more than simply joining a new club.
“I’m very excited to be here, and I want to achieve a lot of things,” said Imuran. “It’s a big club with a lot of history, and it has big ambitions, and I want to be part of it.”
Her arrival at Aston Villa is expected to strengthen Natalia Arroyo’s squad ahead of the 2026/27 season.
Imuran’s progression offers another example of Nigerian women footballers earning opportunities at the highest levels of the game.
