Sultan declares Sunday Eid-el-Fitr as new moon sighted in Nigeria

Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, has declared Monday, March 30, 2025, as the day of Eid-Fitr.

The Sultan, who is the President General of Nigeria’s Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, on Saturday said the decision followed the report of National Moon Sighting Committees across the country which confirmed the non-sighting of the new moon.

Earlier, IntelRegion reports that Saudi Arabia said the crescent of Shawwal had been sighted.

It also added that Eid al-Fitr, marking the beginning of the new Islamic month, will now be held on Sunday, March 30, 2025.

This disclosure was made on Haramin’s official Facebook page, an official platform for the Muslim community worldwide.

“The crescent moon for the month of Shawwal 1446 was sighted in Saudi Arabia. Therefore, Eid Al Fitr will be celebrated on Sunday, March 30, 2025.”
