Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, has commended the Knights of St. Mulumba (KSM) Nigeria for establishing an Endowment Fund and Charity Initiative, describing the move as a visionary step towards institutionalising charity and strengthening sustainable humanitarian service across the country.
The Speaker made the remarks on Thursday in Abuja during the unveiling of the KSM Endowment Fund and Charity Initiative organised by the Supreme Council of the Order of the Knights of St. Mulumba Nigeria.
Represented at the event, Abbas said the creation of a dedicated endowment fund to support charitable activities demonstrated remarkable foresight and a long-term commitment to addressing social and humanitarian challenges.
He noted that charity should not merely respond to immediate needs but should be institutionalised to meet future demands, stressing that sustainable interventions are essential for national development.
“I am deeply honoured to join the Supreme Council and the entire membership of the Order of the Knights of St. Mulumba Nigeria on the historic occasion of the unveiling of the KSM Endowment Fund and Charity Initiative,” the Speaker said.
He praised the leadership of the Order for what he described as a visionary intervention aimed at sustaining humanitarian service, adding that the initiative reflects the timeless wisdom of planning for tomorrow while serving the needs of today.
The Speaker also acknowledged the Knights of St. Mulumba’s more than seven decades of service to God and humanity, highlighting the organisation’s contributions to charity, compassion, justice and social development across Nigeria.
According to him, the long-standing record of service by the Catholic lay organisation has strengthened communities and promoted values that support national unity and development.
Abbas urged other faith-based organisations, corporate bodies and well-meaning Nigerians to support initiatives that provide sustainable solutions to societal challenges.
The KSM Endowment Fund and Charity Initiative is expected to provide a structured and sustainable financing mechanism to expand the Order’s humanitarian programmes, welfare interventions and community development projects across the country.
The unveiling ceremony, held at St. Gabriel’s Chaplaincy, Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria, Durumi, Abuja, drew members of the Supreme Council of KSM, clergy, government officials and other stakeholders committed to charitable and social development causes.
