Wife of the Governor of Anambra State, Mrs Nonye Soludo, has urged women to discuss ways to discourage youths from use of illegal drugs.
The governor’s wife said the women could use the opportunity of this year’s August meetings to discuss ways to end the menace.
August is used by Anambra women at home and in the diaspora to meet to discuss matters affecting them.
Speaking while hosting women groups at the Governor’s Lodge, Amawbia, Awka South Local Government Area of the state on Tuesday, Mrs Soludo reminded them that drug consumption had a correlation with the current wave of crime in society.
She said, “Mothers are the heart and conscience of society. You must wake up and lead the fight against social vices among youths.
“The increasing reports of drug abuse even among school children and domestic violence against children raises serious questions about mothers’ roles for a better society.”
She also called on the women to use the opportunity of this year’s August meeting to invest in agriculture.
“You can also pay attention to your nutrition, and farming would help in in that regard largely. Also, you must pay attention to your hygiene practices as women,” she said.
