Soldier opens fire, kills senior officer, injures others in Sokoto

A soldier identified as James Kingsley has been gunned down by fellow troops after he went on a shooting rampage, resulting in the death of his senior officer.

The tragic incident occurred at the Forward Operational Base in Magami, Sokoto, under the Joint Task Force North West Operation HADARIN DAJI (OPHD).

The slain senior officer, a Second Lieutenant identified as OC Ukachuckwu (N/19548), lost his life during the incident that took place on Sunday at 6:05 pm.

According to a military source, Kingsley went berserk and opened fire, killing Ukachuckwu, before being subdued by other soldiers present at the scene.

Some of Kingsley’s colleagues sustained injuries during the incident but are reported to be stable in the hospital.

A military signal made available to newsmen and signed by Major MD Mikaailu read, “I TXT(.) SPECIAL SITREP (.) INCIDENT REPORT (.) AT ABOUT 041805HRS(.)
