Sokoto State Government Raises Alarm Over Emergence of New Terror Group

The Sokoto State Government has raised concerns over the emergence of a new terrorist group, LAKURAWAS, operating in the state.

Deputy Governor Idris Gobir disclosed this during a meeting with participants of Course 33 of the National Defence College, Abuja, who were on a study tour in the state.

According to Gobir, LAKURAWAS is a faith-based ideological group, possessing sophisticated weapons and carrying out criminal activities in about five local government areas.

The deputy governor said the development comes at a time when the state is already grappling with banditry. According to him, the threats by the new group are expanding.

“The state government has been working closely with Federal Security Agencies to address numerous security threats to lives and properties of the people of the state,” he said.
