Senior Special Assistant to Edo Speaker killed by gunmen few weeks to guber poll

A few weeks ahead of the Edo State governorship election scheduled for September 21, 2024, a Senior Special Assistant to the Edo State House of Assembly Speaker, Blessing Agbebaku, has been killed by unidentified gunmen.

The deceased, identified as Samson Omoarebokhae, was attacked on August 31 while travelling from Ozalla to Uhumora in Owan West Local Government Area of the state.

The information was disclosed in a statement by Ivy Adodo-Ebojele, the Special Adviser to the Speaker on Media.

The statement noted that a delegation had been sent to visit the family of the deceased to offer condolences.

“Though it is a painful situation, we pray to God in His infinite power to give the family a reason to smile again.

“We pray to God to repose the soul of the deceased and give the family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss,” she said.

The Chief of Staff to the Speaker, Odion Iruobe, who led the delegation, described the death as a significant loss not only to the Assembly but also to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the people of Owan West Local Government.

While the motive behind the killing remains unclear, especially with the impending governorship election, the Speaker’s office and the deceased’s family have expressed their grief and appreciation for the support received during this difficult time.
