SDP Names Idris HK as Consensus Candidate for Kogi East Senate Seat Ahead of 2027 Polls

Kogi East — Entrepreneur and philanthropist Idris HK has been affirmed as the consensus candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) for Kogi East Senatorial District in the 2027 General Elections.

In a press statement issued on 23 May 2026, Idris HK said the mandate reflected a shared vision for the district.

“To God be the glory. I have been officially affirmed as the consensus candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) for the Kogi East Senatorial District in the upcoming 2027 General Elections,” he stated.

“This mandate is not just a personal victory; it is a collective testament to our shared vision for the progress and transformation of our people across the nine local government areas of Kogi East.”

He thanked party officials, delegates, stakeholders, traditional rulers, and grassroots leaders for their support. “Your trust is a debt I intend to repay with dedicated, transparent, and impactful service,” he said. Idris HK also commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for its role in the process, noting the officials’ “presence and commitment to ensuring the process was transparent and credible.”

Drawing on his work through the Idris HK Foundation, he outlined his track record in community development.

“As an entrepreneur and founder of the Idris HK Foundation, my life’s work has always been centered on building, developing and creating opportunities for our people,” he said.

“From the donation of transformers and solar street lights to communities in Ankpa and Ofu, to the ongoing Ankpa Electricity Project aimed at ending years of darkness, borehole projects, scholarships, medical outreaches and youth empowerment programmes, I have remained committed to improving lives.”

Idris HK said he would bring the same approach to the Senate. “I am now ready to bring that same energy, dedication and structural development to the Senate for the entire Kogi East Senatorial District.”

He added that the campaign would focus on development priorities for the district. “Our journey toward purposeful, people-oriented representation, massive electrification, agricultural revitalization, youth empowerment, and infrastructural growth has officially begun.”

Concluding, he pledged a new standard of representation. “I sincerely mean it when I say that Kogi East will experience unprecedented and positive representation. Together, we can build a senatorial district we will all be proud of.”
