School Sports: Sec. School football league kicks-off July 31

The President, Nigeria American Football Association (NAFA) Babajide Akeredolu, said that the Season two edition of the Nigeria Secondary School Flag Football League (NSSFFL) would commence on July 31 to Aug. 5 in Akure, Ondo State.

Akeredolu who stated this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Wednesday, said eight teams representing seven states would participate in the event.

The president said that modalities have been put in place for the success of the event.

He said that the event which commenced in May with the preliminaries, had embraced the inclusion of new states elevating the event to a multi-state spectacle.

“A total of seven states participated in the preliminaries vis: Ondo, Oyo, Ogun, Lagos, Abuja, Akwa Ibom, and Osun.

“This season witnessed the active involvement of 75 secondary schools from these states, with over 2,000 student athletes competing.

“As the competition unfolds, we eagerly look forward to witnessing the prowess and determination of these remarkable young athletes,”Akeredolu said.

NAN reports that in the girls’ category, Army Cantonment Girls, Lagos will play African Church Grammar School in Group A, while Government Science Secondary School, Rykaso, Abuja will slug it out with Atanja School of Ogun State.

In the boys’ category, Keke Senior High School, Lagos will take on African Church Grammar School in Group A. Government Science Secondary School, Pyakasa, Abuja would lock horns with Damatec College, Osun

The Group B encounter would feature Ikeja Senior Grammar School, Lagos, St. Peter’s Unity Girls, Ondo and United Secondary School, Oyo.

Ikeja Senior Grammar School would play Akure Secondary Boys School, while Government Secondary School Afagha, Eket Akwa-Ibom would play Olubadan High School, Oyo.

Akeredolu said that the national tournament christened, AKETI BOWL was in honour of the NAFA Chairman, Gov. Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State.
