Sacked Kano Commissioner Dumps NNPP, Joins APC

The former Commissioner for Rural and Community Development in Kano State, Abbas Sani Abbas, has officially defected from the ruling New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC).

Mr. Abbas’s defection comes after he was relieved of his duties last month by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, along with five other commissioners, in a cabinet shakeup aimed at strengthening the administration.

The Deputy President of the Senate, Barau Jibrin, announced Mr. Abbas’s defection in a statement posted on Social Media. Mr. Jibrin praised Mr. Abbas for his dedication to grassroots mobilization and expressed optimism about his contributions to the APC.

“He served as the Commissioner for Rural and Community Development in Kano State until last month. During a visit to us in Kano, he announced his exit from the NNPP to the APC.”

“Joined by the Chairman of our party in Kano State, Prince Abdullahi Abbas (Ɗan Sarki, Jikan Sarki), and other party leaders, we proudly embraced Hon. Abbas, a dedicated grassroots mobiliser to our party. We assured him of our support as we work together to build a better future for the people of Kano State and, indeed, all Nigerians,” Mr. Jibrin added.

He wrote, “I welcomed Hon. Abbas Sani Abbas to our great party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), a moment ago.
