Rowdy Session In House Of Reps Over Motion On Budget Implementation

‎The House of Representatives was thrown into a rowdy session on Wednesday as lawmakers debated a motion on the poor implementation of the budget and delays in the release of funds to Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).

‎The motion, sponsored by a lawmaker representing Abia State, Hon. Mascot Ikwechegh, sought to address concerns over the pace of budget execution and the impact of funding delays on government operations.

‎A key prayer of the motion called for President Bola Tinubu to appear before the House to discuss the issues surrounding budget implementation and fund disbursement.

‎The proposal, however, sparked sharp divisions among lawmakers, with members opposed to the motion repeatedly chanting “sit down” at colleagues speaking in support of it.

‎The heated exchanges disrupted proceedings and led to a prolonged debate that lasted for about 30 minutes.

‎At the end of the deliberations, the Speaker of the House, Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, overruled the motion.

‎Abbas explained that the prayers contained in the motion as read on the floor differed from those contained in the document originally submitted by the sponsor, describing it as a deviation from the approved text.
