Rotary Clubs to conduct free medical outreach in Lokoja tomorrow

Rotary clubs in Kogi state have announced plans to conduct free medical outreach for residents of Lokoja, the state capital tomorrow, Thursday 24, 2024.

The outreach, an annual 3-day programme of Rotary International, which will commence from 24th to 26th October 2024, is to enable families know their health status.

A statement by the State Coordinator, Rotarian Grace Ben Kato, disclosed that the free medical outreach will be intervening in two communities; Angwan Yashi and SUBEB Primary Healthcare Centres respectively.

“The Rotary Family Health and Prevention, with Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, in collaboration with Rotary clubs in Nigeria, will be having its free nationwide Health service tagged Rotary Family Health (RFHDs)”, the statement reads.

According to the statement, the outreach will test, screen and examine members of the public on BP, Glucose, HIV testing and counseling, Herpatitis B and C, Vitamin A administration, Deworming of children, distribution of insecticide treated mosquito nets, Prostrate Cancer screening, Eye and Dental care, distribution of sanitary pads for girls, condom distribution, Polio amongst others.

The outreach it added, will be preceeded by Polio awareness walk by Rotary club members in support of World Polio Day/polio eradication.

“This is the second time the organisation is intervening in Lokoja this year. The programme is designed in such a way that screening and test results that come out positive, are referred to Kogi State Special Hospital, Lokoja.

“Rotary Family Health Days began in Nigeria in 2012 in Lagos State and Ogun State. The Rotary Family Healty and AIDS (RFHA), board agreed to scale up the programme in 2014 to include the whole country” the statement added.
