Rivers Assembly invites commissioner nominees for screening on Monday

‎The Rivers State House of Assembly has invited all nominees for appointment as commissioners and members of the State Executive Council for screening and confirmation.

‎In a statement signed by the Clerk of the House, Emeka Amadi, the nominees are expected to appear at the Rivers State House of Assembly Chamber, Assembly Quarters, Port Harcourt, on Monday, March 9, 2026, at 10:00 a.m.

‎Last Friday, the Speaker of the House, Martin Amaewhule, said the delay in screening the nominees was due to the fact that only seven of them had submitted their CVs and credentials for the process.

‎Governor Siminalayi Fubara had, on Monday last week, submitted nine names to the Assembly for screening and confirmation.

‎This development comes as political tensions in the state have eased following a third intervention by President Bola Tinubu.

‎The State Assembly had, for the third time, initiated an impeachment process against the governor, this time also including the Deputy Governor, Professor Ngozi Nma Odu.

‎However, the House suspended the process following the president’s intervention.
