Reps summons finance minister for underfunding Auditor General’s office

The House of Representatives Public Account Committee has summoned the Minister of Finance, Zainab Ahmed over allegations of underfunding of the office of the Auditor General for the Federation.

The Chairman of the Committee, Oluwole Oke issued the summon on Wednesday when the Auditor General appeared before the committee to defend the budget of the AuGF.

Oke said the budget office reduced the “capital requirement of this agency to N62m” and reduced its overhead by N3billion.

He said the defunding of the OAuGF is an attempt to “undermine the Office of the Auditor General for the Federation.”

“They have to go cap-in-hand to beg for workers, they are understaffed and undermined. They cannot conduct performance audits. As we speak, this office has yet to lay its reports for the 2020 and 2021 financial years and we are saying that we are determined to wage war against corruption,” Oke said.

The Director General of the Budget Office, Ben Akabueze is to also appear before the committee.
