Rangers held by Heartland in pre-season friendly

Oriental rivals, Rangers and Heartland battled to a 1-1 draw in their pre-season friendly at the Awka City Stadium.

Joel Okoro gave Rangers the lead on the dot of half-time after he was set by a delightful pass from Chukwudi Nwaodu.

Heartland equalised on 53 minutes with Tunde Oyewole stamping the ball home after he was left unmarked inside the box.

Efforts by both sides to score more goals failed to materialize as goalkeepers Emeka Onyia for Rangers and Chisom Chiaha for Heartland, made great saves to end the encounter on an even note.

Rangers and Abia Warriors will kick-start their 2023-24 Nigeria Professional Football League campaign against Doma United and Niger Tornadoes respectively.

The new season will start on September 9.
