PSC suspends police constable recruitment

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has suspended the recruitment process of constables into the Nigeria Police Force.

The suspension is coming less than 24 hours after the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba, disagreed with the commission for opening a portal for recruitment of police constable.

Reacting on Tuesday, the Commission in a statement by its spokesman, Ikechukwu Ani, confirmed that there are issues between the police force and the commission.

He asked Nigerians who had shown interest in joining the Force not to apply for the job yet so as to give the Commission the time to settle its differences with the police authorities.

According to the statement, the Police Service Commission noted the publication of the Nigeria Police Force with regard to the 2022 Constable recruitment exercise, adding that “the Commission wishes to state that all contending issues around the exercise will be resolved between the two parties in the interest of the nation.”

The statement appealed that all applicants and other Nigerians desirous of a career in the Nigeria Police Force should exercise patience while these issues were being resolved.

He added that the commission will continue to strive to give Nigerians a Police Force they will be proud of.
