Portable sent to prison for defamation, cyberstalking

Controversial hiphop singer, Badmus Habeeb Okikiola popularly known as Portable, has been remanded in Oke-Kura correctional centre in Ilorin, Kwara State, pending when he will be able to perfect his bail condtions.

The Kwara State Police Command had dragged Portable before Magistrate Sunday Adeniyi of the state Upper Area Court on Monday.

Portable was arraigned following a petition by fellow entertainer and famous Fuji musician, Okunola Saheed, fondly called Osupa.

According to the Police First Information Report, (FIR) the Fuji music star sued Portable for criminal defamation, criminal intimidation, inciting Public disturbance and cyberstalking.

Osupa accused Portable of “making live stream video to abuse him, adding that the defendant (Portable) dented his personality for claiming that he removed his music from Apple music and Spotify that would have been fetching him income”.

Prosecutor Abubakar Issa urged the court to remand Portable in the correctional facility pending the determination of the police investigation on the matter.

Counsel representing Portable, Barrister Adebayo Issac, urged the court to discountenance the submission of the prosecutor, saying the police would have held the defendant back in custody till their investigation is completed.

He informed the court that his client was granted administrative bail on Sunday by the police, maintaining that Portable is a public figure with a traceable address and would make himself available for trial if admitted to bail.

Adebayo said he premised his argument on Section 172 (1) and Sec 165 of the Administration of Criminal Justice system, adding that critical appraisal of the sections of the law may guide the court to admit him to bail.

Magistrate Adeniyi, in his short ruling, admitted Portable to bail in the sum of N1 million, adding that one of his sureties must be chairman of the PMAN.

The matter was adjourned to 30th of April, 2025.

It was gathered that Portable has been move to the Oke-Kura custodial centre in the presence of two of his wives pending the perfection of his bail conditions.

News reports stated that Portable was arrested by operatives on Saturday during a live video session inside his car.

The command’s spokesperson, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi (SP), had confirmed the development in a release on Sunday night.

The development worsened the feud between the two popular entertainers.

The duo have had issues over alleged copyright infringement.

The saga led to Portable publicly insulting Osupa in a viral video.

The Zazu Zeh crooner had called the 55-year-old singer unflattering names, sparking outrage online.

In the video, Portable was quoted to have said: “This man dey try to bring down my shine! He be like a person wey dey chop snail with shell—him no get sense. Osupa na tortoise.

“When Apple Music and Spotify wan drop money for me, na him remove my song from platform make I no see money. Money matters caused the fight. I was offended because I wanted to collect my money, and I heard they wanted to remove the music”.

Following heavy backlash, Portable later apologized to Osupa in a video he shared, pleading, “King Saheed Osupa, my daddy, don’t be angry. Take me like a child to train.”

While showing remorse, he also claimed their dispute was just a promotion, saying, “We are both promoting each other… please give me shows.”

However, the controversial artist retracted his apology when Saheed allegedly insisted that his action to apologize did not change anything about the situation.
