Police rescue human trafficking victim, arrest two facilitators in Sokoto

The Sokoto State Police Command has rescued a female victim of human trafficking while two facilitators at the Illela border town have been apprehended.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Mohammed Gumel, while addressing newsmen in Sokoto on Monday, explained that it was part of the mandate of the X-Squad quick reaction force recently launched by the command.

According to Gumel, “It is in pursuance of this mandate, the command on September 2 responded to a distress call by one of the migrants who was trapped at Illela border town to Niger Republic.”

He explained that the female victim, in her statement, said that while her handler was making an effort to smuggle her across the border, she saw a police patrol team that directed her to hide, to which she complied.

According to him, the quick reaction force arrested two facilitators, one at Illela and the second at Sokoto metropolis.

He, therefore, advised parents and guardians to always monitor the activities of their children and wards under their care to avoid the activities of unscrupulous elements that are out to perpetuate their evil acts.

Mr Gumel also called on the general public to continue to support security agencies in their efforts toward addressing all forms of crimes and criminality across the state and ensure sanity.
