The Nigeria Police Force on Thursday confirmed the arrest of a cleric and two other church leaders captured flogging unclad children in a viral video.
Politics Nigeria gathered that the cleric and the church leaders flogged the children during a “spiritually cleansing ceremony“.
In a viral video, the children – aged between five and nine years old – were captured being flogged on their bare skin in a spiritual cleansing process.
The children were flogged multiple times with palm tree leaves during the cleansing ceremony
After flogging each child, the pastor hands them over to a church leader who directs them to a separate group.
The new group are categorised as “cleansed.”
This process was also carried out in the presence of the children’s parents who confirmed their approved of the spiritual cleansing.
Akpo Lewis, the Divisional Police Officer of Eneka Police Station said the pastor, Ifediorah Joseph, church welfare secretary Promise Nwikegha, and minister Deborah Ohia have been arrested.
