Police bust car theft syndicate in Jigawa

The police in Jigawa State say its operatives have bust a car theft syndicate and arrested two suspects that have been terrorising the state.

Spokesman of the command, DSP. Lawan Shiisu Adam confirmed the arrest in a statement issued on Saturday.

He said the arrest came after the police received a report by one Abduhamid Mukhtar of Kwalam town Taura LGA, that his motor vehicle, Opel Vectra was stolen in front of his house where he parked it.

According to him, “on 23/5/2023 at about 0300hrs a team of Policemen attached to Taura Divisional Police Headquarters, while on Patrol along Kano-Hadejia road, intercepted a 23-year-old Shamsu Salisu and 22-year-old Shafi’u Yusuf all of Kwalam village Taura LGA, at Kwanar railway Taura town, with Opel Vectra Motor vehicle with registration number DUT 463 AA, green in colour, strongly suspected to be stolen.”

Shiisu said the patrol team immediately arrested the occupants of the vehicle at the Divisional headquarters and handed it over to the Crime Branch for investigation.

He said the suspects confessed to having used a key of a Toyota Corolla to get access into the said stolen motor vehicle.

The police spokesman said the case is under investigation and they will be taken to court.
