Police arrest three electric cable thieves in Jigawa

The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested three suspected electric cable vandals in Ringim Local Government Area.

The spokesman of the command, DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued to newsmen, in which he identified those arrested as Haruna Haruna, 29, and Amadu Nasiru, 33, both of Gujaba village in Ringim LGA.

According to the statement, a technical officer of the Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO), Ringim Branch Office, complained at the Ringim Police Station on September 3 at about 1 pm that unknown persons had vandalised KEDCO service cables along the Ringim-Gidan Garke axis.

DSP Adam said a team of policemen led by the Divisional Police Officer swiftly swung into action and arrested the suspects who were caught with the aluminium wire.

The suspects reportedly revealed that they stole the cables from the shop of one Dahiru Isah of Tofa village, Gezawa LGA, Kano State.

Upon interrogation, Dahiru Isah reportedly disclosed that he bought the cables from one Kulu Danjummai of Gujaba village, now at large, and kept them in his shop until he discovered them missing.

A police spokesman said the investigation is ongoing and efforts are in top gear to arrest the prime suspect, after which they would be arraigned in court.
