Piers Morgan gives verdict as Ronaldo tries to claim Bruno Fernandes’ goal

TV host, Piers Morgan, has insisted that Cristiano Ronaldo should have been awarded the first goal Portugal scored against Uruguay during both sides’ World Cup tie on Monday night.

Portugal defeated Uruguay 2-0 in their second World Cup fixture, thanks to two goals from Bruno Fernandes.

The 2016 European championship winners took the lead midway through the second half when Ronaldo appeared to head in Fernandes’ brilliant cross.

But replays suggested that the five-time Ballon d’Or winner did not touch the ball and the goal was later awarded to Fernandes.

But the former Manchester United forward had celebrated as if he had scored the goal.

Reacting, Morgan, who recently granted Ronaldo a controversial interview, believes the former Real Madrid star touched the ball.

“Ronaldo touched that ball. He should be awarded the goal,” Morgan wrote on Twitter.

The win over Uruguay means Portugal have now joined France and Brazil in the World Cup round of 16.
